Roots in Jacksonville
Natives of Jacksonville, James and Dana’s story begins on a shared street, blossoming from childhood best friends to visionaries of Engedi Farm. James, an accounting and finance professional with a penchant for farm construction, is the backbone of our farm’s development. His affection for animals, especially our mini pig Hamlet, mirrors his dedication to the farm
A Lifelong Passion
Dana’s world has always been entwined with horses. Starting her riding journey at 12, she developed a remarkable skill for managing challenging ponies, a trait that defines her to this day. Her experiences, from trading barn work for lessons to owning and training over 40 horses, have not only honed her equestrian skills but also shaped her as a respected instructor. With over 13 years as a high school math teacher, Dana uniquely tailors her lessons to each student’s needs, igniting a shared passion for horses.
The Birth of Engedi Farm
In 2014, when it was least expected, the name just came to us. We were watching a sermon series preached by the pastor of Church of Eleven22, Joby Martin. The topic for the series was on relationships and was based on the book Song of Solomon. Pastor Joby spoke about a place where David hid when he was running from Saul. This place was an oasis in the middle of the desert, complete with waterfalls and pools of water and streams. It possessed an abundance of vegetation and thus attracted animals, specifically noted were goats. This oasis was called Engedi, which literally translates to “spring of the kid (young goat)”. I cannot remember which one of us actually stopped the video feed, but I do remember that we simultaneously looked at each other with excitement in our eyes as we finally had the name for our new farm – Engedi Farm! Our vision for the farm is to be that oasis in the middle of the desert of life for whomever God sends our way, a place where people can come and just be, a place where they can take a break from all of the worries of life, where they will leave feeling restored and rejuvenated.
That is how good our Heavenly Father is… He provides for ALL of our needs. He is our protector; he is our shelter and he is our provision!!!

It’s where children’s laughter mingles with the whinny of horses, where each sunset brings a sense of accomplishment and new beginnings.
